Harry Eldon Carter

JENNINGS It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Harry E. Carter, 83, announces his passing on Sunday, July 11, 2010, in the Jennings American Legion Hospital. Harry was born on March 24, 1927 in Roanoke to the union of the late Rex E. and Belle Carter. He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1944 and joined the Navy serving in World War II aboard the USS Henry W. Tucker. He was a retired farmer who loved to hunt deer and turkeys, socialize with his exercise and coffee groups and spend time with family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Irwin and David Carter and a sister Florence Land. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marguerite Carter of Jennings; one son, David Carter of Jennings; four daughters, Betty Jo Loewer and husband Dicky of Roanoke; Debra Carter and husband Dave Smith of Houston, Texas; Suzanne Laperouse and husband David of St. Martinville; and Denise Brann and husband Jeff of Friendswood, Texas; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Burrow of Lake Charles and two brothers, Floyd Carter of Welsh and Charles Carter of Jennings. His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Jennings United Methodist Church with Rev. Ted Freeland officiating. Visitation was from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home; and will be from 8:00 a.m. today, Tuesday at the church until time of services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Richard McGregor and his wife Diane. Thanks also to the Staff and Nurses on 2nd Floor Tower at Jennings American Legion Hospital. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Harry Carter.
