Guy Whitworth Finch

Jennings Funeral services for Mr. Guy Whitworth Finch, 94, will be held at 2:00 p.m.., Saturday, March 7, 2009 in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Morgan officiating. Burial with military graveside honors will be in Greenwood cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, and from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday Mr. Finch died Wednesday. March 4, 2009 at his residence in Lake Charles. Guy was born June 23, 1914 to Aaron and Nellie Duckett Finch in North Louisiana. His mother died just days before his sixth birthday and he and his siblings went to live with his beloved aunt and uncle, Goldie and Guy Doherty in Elton. He grew up in the Doherty home and lived there until he was drafted into World War II where he served as a Medic in the jungles of New Guinea. After the war he returned to Elton for a short time and then moved to Lake Charles where he worked and retired from Cal-Cam Tractor Company. Guy was an exercise enthusiast and he spent many hours of the day walking as much as five miles a day. He accredited his longevity to his great exercise program and encouraged everyone he met to get into an exercise program. Mr. Finch was preceded in death by his siblings, Albert, Fabe, Ruth, Mattie, Louise, Nellie and Lin Doherty. He is survived by his sister, Nelwyn; a sister-in-law, Lois F. Doherty of Elton and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed by all.
