Graveside services for Mrs. Gloria Havens, 91, will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her beloved husband Jack.  Rev. Todd Schumacher will officiate, and burial will be under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Gloria Ann Doughtie Havens, 91, passed away December 30, 2023, at the Holly Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sulpur, Louisiana.

She was born on October 27, 1932, in Houston, TX to J. J. Doughtie and Ernestine Garrett Doughtie.  Gloria grew up and went to school in Houston. Gloria married Jack Havens on August 5, 1950.  They moved to Sulphur in 1958.  When Jack started and operated his own ceramic tile contracting business for 20 years, Gloria took care of the administration and tax work.  She accomplished these tasks while running their household and taking care of their four children. In addition to all this, Gloria also worked at TG & Y and later at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital.

When Jack retired from the tile business, he opened a locksmith business. Gloria worked at the locksmith shop, taking care of the administrative needs as well as serving as a receptionist.  She learned to cut keys and perform some repairs on locks.  Gloria and Jack were involved in many locksmith organizations.

Gloria was a talented seamstress who made a lot of clothes for her family.  She was also a wonderful cook and served delicious meals.  She played the dobro guitar, and often joined with friends to play and sing. Jack was a World War II Navy Veteran, and Gloria joined him in many Veterans of Foreign Wars activities which supported military veterans.  They brought food and gifts for the patients to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Alexandria.

When the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings began operations, Gloria and Jack conducted many Bingo games at the home, much to the enjoyment of the residents. When Jack moved into the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in 2017, Gloria moved from Sulphur to an apartment in Jennings.  She then moved to Camelot Brookside in Jennings in the summer of 2020. She moved once more to Holly Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sulphur in the summer of 2023 after Jack passed away.

Gloria is survived by her three daughters, Jerry Lynn Young (Dan), Gayle Lee McFarlain (Glenn), and Johnnie Kae Pleasant (Houston); and a son, Theodore Wayne Havens; seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Jack; her parents and her sister, Betty Daniels.
