The family of GERTRUDE FORD ROBINSON announces her peaceful passing from this life at the age of 103 into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 21 from Camelot Brookside Nursing Home, Jennings, LA. Gertrude was born September 6, 1914, in the home of her parents, Sidney Benjamin Ford and Clara Etta Pike Ford at 1011 N. Church Street, Jennings, LA.

Gertrude attended Central School and Jennings High, graduating in the Class of ’31. Following high school, she was employed at Rosebud’s as a salesperson and in 1937 she married Elisha Rowland Robinson. From that union, they raised two children, Johnnye Rae Robinson and Lee Rowland Robinson while also having started and operated several local ventures where she served as Co-Owner and Office Manager.

Gertrude was active in the community serving as Den Mother for Calcasieu Council of the BSA for 4 years. She was a long-time member of the Lake Charles Gem and Mineral Club, aka, Lapidarian Society and served one year each as Secretary and President, also the Jennings Garden Club, serving as Secretary for 2 years. Gertrude was a long-time member of the Home Demonstration Club, serving 10 years as Secretary and 4 years as President. She was also a Jeff Davis Parish Poll Commissioner for nearly 30 years and Commissioner-in-Charge for 5 years. Gertrude found enjoyment in her daily newspaper, collecting recipes, composing poems, corresponding with family and friends through snail mail, shopping and she never met a crossword puzzle she didn’t like and was known to have notified the newspaper when she found mistakes in the puzzle.

Gertrude was a faithful member of Living Word Assembly of God, Jennings, LA for 35 years. Relatives and friends alike could testify to the personal relationship she enjoyed and faithfully lived out with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She read her Bible daily and was a committed prayer warrior for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Johnnye Rae Robinson (Jack) Rotchford of Hartsville, South Carolina and Lee Roland (Judy) Robinson of Jennings, LA, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Clara Ford, her brothers and sisters-in-law, William Hilton Ford and Margaret Fleming Ford, Henry Joel Ford and Bernice Murray Ford, her sister and brother-in-law, Abbie Frances Ford McGee and Claude P. McGee, one daughter, Constance Aliene Robinson, one grandson, John Sevrin Robinson and one great grandson, Caleb Sawyer Gonzalez.

At Gertrude’s instructions, her body was donated to the LSU Medical Center, Bureau of Anatomical Services, of New Orleans, LA for the advancement of medical education and research. A memorial service in honor of her life will be celebrated at a future date.

Gertrude’s family would like to give special thanks to Camelot Brookside of Jennings and Lamm Hospice of Crowley for the compassionate care provided to her during her time of need, as well as Miguez Funeral Home for their help in carrying out her final instructions.
