LAKE ARTHUR Funeral services for George Donald King, 78, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Msgr. Ronald Groth officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur. Funeral home visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and 8:00 a.m. Friday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. George Donald King, 78, passed away at his home in Lake Arthur, LA. He was born on August 6, 1935 in Opelousas, LA to George Lee, born in Shuston, LA, and Fannie King, born in Arnaudville, LA. Donald grew up in Opelousas. He graduated from Opelousas High School. He joined the Navy in August 7, 1955-January 8, 1957. He was an Engineman 3 and received a National Defense Service Medal. After completing his tour of duty, Donald began working for The Superior Oil Company and retired in 1991 from Mobil Oil Company as an Area Operations Manager. During his career they lived in Opelousas, Houma, Erath, Lake Arthur, Lafayette, Lake Charles and Houston. He retired in Lake Charles and recently moved to Lake Arthur. Donald married Alice Jeanette Broussard on November 25, 1958. They were happily married for 55 years. They had two children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. Donald was a long time Mason and JC member. He served as a lay minister at Our Lady Queen of Heaven in Lake Charles for 20 years. He volunteered at OLQH Life Center and brought communion to shut ins. He is a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 3012 in Lake Arthur, LA. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed playing golf. He enjoyed traveling and loved to make people laugh. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family was his life. He will be missed by many. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, George and Fannie King, his brothers Joe and Alvin King, sisters, Myrtis King and Doris Lowry, his in-laws Hillard and Eula Broussard. Donald is survived by his spouse Alice Jeanette of Lake Arthur; his daughter, Monica Chapman (Ben Chapman) of Lake Arthur, son Michael King (Patty) of Welsh, LA; his brother Louis King of North Carolina, his grandchildren Ryan King (Mary Camille), Paige King of Welsh, Benjamin, Zachary and Kadie Bonin of Lake Arthur and his sisters-in-law, Shirley Guillory, Carolyn Primeaux, Linda Hughes, Geraldine Fuselier and brother-in-law Terry Broussard. Special thanks to Amedesys Hospice of Lake Charles and to this devoted caretaker Cheryl Broussard, Marchell Kibodeaux, Cathleen Daniel, Martha Cormier and Ursula Caro. Also the Knights of Columbus for their care and support. Thank you to our family and friends for help and support during this difficult time. Pallbearers will be Ryan King, Benjamin Bonin, Zachary Bonin, Terry Broussard, Lee Hughes and Lance Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Paige King and Kadie Bonin.
