Gayle was born July 9, 1936 when her parents, Charles and Neva Groth lived and taught in Lake Arthur, Louisiana. Most of her schooling happened in Hathaway High School. She was very involved in basketball and band. She attended U.L. on a music scholarship where she earned a Master’s Degree in Education.

She taught at St. Maria Goretti High School, Basile High School, and several schools in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In later years she became a Guidance Counselor for schools in Jefferson Davis Parish, then retiring after many years back at Hathaway High School.

She loved traveling, cooking gardening and living in the Hathaway community all of her life. She was very close to her children and family.

Gayle is survived by her two children, Charles (Andrea) Fontenot of Hathaway and Annette (Stephen) Landry of Jeanerette; a sister, Joan (Nelson) Miner of San Antonio, Texas and two brothers, Monsignor Ronald C. Groth of Lake Arthur and Robert Groth of Lake Charles.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Hathaway on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Miller officiating and Msgr. Ronald Groth concelebrating. Visitation will be at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, Friday, August 19 from 2:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary recited by Deacon Mike Tramel being offered at 6:00 p.m. Viewing will resume Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
