Mrs. Fontenot graduated from Jennings High School in 1957 and continued her education receiving a Legal Secretary degree.  She worked as a secretary for many years.  She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Jennings. Mrs. Fontenot reigned as the 1957 Rice Festival Queen and like a true Queen she loved to shop and travel.  She and her husband David were married 50 years and raised a large family.  They enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, David Fontenot; daughters, Jacqueline (Kirk) Montgomery of New Orleans, Sue Fontenot of Jennings, Debra Myers of Lafayette; sons, Jules (Sharon) Clement of Baton Rouge and Gabriel (Deborah) Fontenot of Manvel, TX; sister, Judy (Cyrus) Seilhan of Abbeville; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Hazard Guillot and Laura Foreman; her daughter, Cindy Sittig; a sister, Mary Ann Guillot; her grandson, Ryan Paul Legros and her father-in-law, Lester J. Fontenot.

The family would like to send special thanks to Grace Hospital and her nurses, Molly Bellon, Amber Montet, The Rev. Stephanie LeLeux, Sharon Russo, Yolanda Eden and Jennifer Broussard for their devotion, kindness, and loving care of Mrs. Fontenot during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in her name to Alzheimer’s Foundation or First Baptist Church of Jennings.
