Forrest Stanford Strickland, Sr.

JENNINGS Forrest Stanford Strickland, Sr. died at 6:18 on Saturday, November 23, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Strickland was born March 5, 1931 in Jennings, LA, where he graduated from high school in 1949. He graduated from McNeese State University in 1958 and is a member of the McNeese Cowboy Club. He served his country in the Navy during the Korean conflict. Mr. Strickland worked for Chevron all over the world until his retirement in 1986. He was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Jennings and a member of the Old Timers Sunday School Class.He is a member of the Masonic order and a Shriner. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn Phenice Strickland, a son Forrest Stanford Strickland, Jr. (Emma) and a daughter, Crystal Lee Strickland LeJeune (Keith). There are two grandchildren, Lana Lee Strickland and Morgan Paul Strickland- LeJeune, two great-grandchildren, Brayden Lee Strickland and Kennedi Jade Strickland. He is also survived by step-children, Karen Thurmon Rye (Charley), Mark Thurmon, and Stacy Thurmon Johnson (Patrick). Nine step-grandchildren, Charles Alan Rye, Erin Rye, Paul Rye, Mary Grace Thurmon, Olivia Thurmon, Louis Thurmon, Kyle Johnson, Paige Johnson and Mollie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey Lee (Bob) Strickland and Ethel Ruth (Polly) Phelps Strickland and wife, Irene Alvey Strickland. His funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 27 at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, LA. Reverend Brian Wells will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue until service time on Wednesday. Burial will be a Masonic service at Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings. Pallbearers will be Morgan LeJeune, Keith LeJeune, Mark Thurmon, Keith Broussard, Eric Marsh and Charley Rye. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Phenice, John Bourque, Billy Rogers, Patrick Johnson, Monty Montgomery, Richard Roe and the members of his coffee club. The family requests that in lieu of flowers gifts may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Stamford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
