A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Eva Derks Landry, 97, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic church on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.  with Father Keith Pellerin and Father Marshall Bouley officiating.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

The family will receive visitors at Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings, LA on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. followed by the praying of the Holy Rosary by Deacon Mike Tramel and the Ladies Altar Society. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on July 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.

Eva Derks Landry was born on May 11, 1927, to the union of Eva Gary and Henry Derks of Hathaway. She was a resident of Jennings, LA and a lifelong member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church where she served in the Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters. She prepared meals with our dad Johnny for many of the Knights of Columbus fundraisers; she and dad were awarded Family of the month many times. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, serving Communion to the homebound. The dedication and love for her Catholic belief never wavered. She was a woman of great faith and character. She was a devoted wife and prayer warrior for her family and friends.  Eva was a caring mother to her seven children whom she loved unconditionally. She was a 1943 graduate of Hathaway High School. She earned a certification as a Telegraph operator during WWll. She met and married the love of her life John W. Landry, Jr. She and Johnny wanted a Catholic education for their children.  All seven graduated from OLHC school. Eva worked for three hometown doctors as a bookkeeper. Eva and Johnny owned a shoe store, café, Johnnies Quik Shop and Drive Inn, and Ben and Bill’s Army Surplus for many years.

Eva loved plants and working in her yard. She enjoyed baking and always entered her plants and baked specialties in the parish fair, receiving many blue ribbons. At 90 she was on Facebook and text messaging her family and friends.

We know the happiness she must have felt meeting her husband, sister and families. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish Eva’s memory include four daughters, Cindy Cart and Bert, Sherrill Landry and Tootie, Renee Markwood and Dennis, Lori Keen and Patrick; three sons, Bobby Landry and Janet, Scotty Landry and Charlotte, Mike Landry and Judy; one sister, Ruby Young; one brother, David Derks; twelve grandchildren, Courtney, Allison, Brittany, Jarrod, Brice, Katherine, Matthew, John Michael, Jillian, Ashton, Reed, Luke; ten great grands, Evan, William, Violet, Layla, Rhett, James Edward, Thomas, Semmes, Colt, and Marielle.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Eva Derks her spouse, John W. Landry, Jr., and one sister, Millie Compton.

Pallbearers will be Jarrod Landry, Brice Landry, Luke Keen, John Michael Landry, Brandon Derks, and Richard Ray Vicknair.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew Markwood, Reed Keen, and John Hardin.
