Funeral services for Dr. Jacquelyn Faye Shaffett Ancelet, 91, of Jennings will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Jennings with Rev. Jeff Cook officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Visitation for Dr. Ancelet will begin on Tuesday evening, January 1, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. and continue until 9:00 p.m.  It will resume at the First Baptist Church of Jennings on Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Born on September 7, 1927 and passed on December 28, 2018. She was known to everyone as “Dr. Jackie,” she was born and raised in her parents’ home in Central, Louisiana.  After completing her undergraduate degree at LSU-BR, she attended LSU medical school in New Orleans as one of only a few women in her class. In 1952, she graduated tops in her class from medical school and also married the love of her life, Lester.  She began a solo medical practice in New Orleans while she waited for Lester to finish medical school and his general surgery residence.  Jackie and Lester moved to Jennings in 1958 where they practiced medicine together until their retirement in 1999.  In those 41 years, Dr. Jackie delivered over 3000 babies and touched many, many lives.  Jackie was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church, first Zoar Baptist Church in Central, Louisiana, then First Baptist in Jennings.  She was a member of her Sunday School Class, Entre Nous, Coffee Club, and Revelers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Beulah Craig Shaffett, her brother, L.E. Shaffett, and her sister, Iris Walker. 

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Lester Ancelet, two daughters, Leslie Ancelet Petry of Jennings, Myra Ancelet Reed of Panama City, Fl., a son, Stuart (Karen), of Lafayette, ten grandchildren, Elise Petry Guintard, Blake Petry, Heath Petry, Garrett Petry, Mallory Petry, Logan Reed, Tara Reed, Cole Reed, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Ancelet, Clayton Ancelet, eight great-grandchildren, and her brother-in-law, Graydon Walker of Central. 

Pallbearers will be her six grandsons. 

The family would like to give their sincere appreciation to her caregivers, Mary Broussard and Jerry Ryder.

In Lieu of flowers the family would ask for donations to be made in her name to the First Baptist Church of Jennings for the Second Harvest Food Ministries.
