Funeral services for Mr. Douglas Joseph Conner, 80, of Lake Arthur will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland Vaughn officiating and Military Funeral Honors. Cremation will follow under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Visitation for Mr. Conner will begin at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 and will continue until 9:00 p.m. A Cursillo Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Mr. Conner served his country honorably in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until 1958. After the service he worked as a pipefitter in the oil and gas industry and retired from Local Pipefitters Union 211 in Houston, TX. He also worked at the Women’s Hospital and retired from there as well.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the VFW Post in Lake Arthur. He loved to hunt, fish, shrimp and crab. He took great joy in teaching his children and grandchildren to enjoy the outdoors. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. In later years he enjoyed bowling and scuba diving. His family will remember him as an awesome family man. Very rarely would a night go by that he wasn’t involved in a friendly card game with either family or friends. He was very supportive of the deaf community, going so far as to join a bowling league to spend more time with their son.
Mr. Conner leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Retia Conner; daughter, Regina Conner Morse of Livingston, TX; step-daughter, Kathleen Collins of Kingsbury, TX; sons, Darcy Conner and Dexter Conner of Houston, TX and Darryl Conner of Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Thelma Jean Schexnider and Judy Istre of Lake Arthur, Lucille LeJeune of Jennings, Earline Doucet of Roanoke and Margie Buerman of Waynesville, MO; brothers, Mike Conner and Terry Conner of Lake Arthur; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Hilda Trahan Conner; 4 brothers, Alex, Jr., Ted Louis, Emery and Donald Conner and one sister, Betty Price.
