Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” S. Berry, 93, formerly of Jennings passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Graveside services for Dot will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with Father Marshall Boulet officiating. Burial is under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Dot was born on February 18, 1931, in Jennings to Earl and LeReine McClung Stewart. She was very active in her community and was a lifelong resident of Jennings. She worked as a secretary for the Jeff Davis Parish School Board. She also worked as a personal assistant to Mrs. Ruth B. Zigler. She loved music and taught voice lessons and was pianist for the Jennings High School choir for many years. Dot was a devoted member of the First United Methodist and former choir member. She was one of the founders of the Jennings American Legion Hospital Pink Ladies Auxiliary (now Oschners American Legion Hospital) and volunteered there for over thirty years.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved children, daughter, Karen (Clarence) Berken and son, R. Arthur Berry; five grandchildren, Erik (Teri)Berken, Erin (Brady) Williams, Drs. David (Karen)Berken, Drs. J. Austin (Camille) Berry, Caroline Catherine (Dr. John) Berry Rothermel; ten great grandchildren, Ethan Williams, Levi Berken, William Berken, Adelaide Berken, Katherine Berken, Gabe Berken, William Rothermel, Margaret Rothermel, Vivienne Berry and James Berry.
She was preceded in death by her precious husband of almost 70 years, R. A. Berry; her parents; siblings, Elza Stewart, Jeanette Mercer, Kenneth Stewart; grandchildren, Stewart Berry, Jeanne Berken, Leah Berken and Kathryn Berken and nephew, Richard Mercer.
Those carrying Mrs. Berry to her place of rest next to her husband will be R. Arthur Berry, Clarence Berken, Erik Berken, David Berken, Brady Williams, Ethan Williams and Robert Mercer.
Many blessings and thanks to her neighborhood angels, Chris and Michelle Guinn and Mel and Bonnie Schulthess and the beautiful caregivers at Southwind Nursing Home and LAMM Hospice.
