Dolores was born on December 12, 1938, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Allen and Hazel Fontenot. At the age of 17, she wedded her beloved husband, Jimmy Wayne Spears, on August 1, 1956. Together, they raised their two sons, Michael Anthony Spears and Kent Stewart Spears, in their residence on Church Street in Jennings, Louisiana.

Dolores was a prominent figure in the Jennings community, having owned and operated the beloved Mother Goose Nursery for several years. Later, she transitioned to the role of secretary at the Ziegler Art Museum and eventually took over as director in 1986, serving the museum for over three decades. During her tenure, she contributed significantly to the Jennings community, including curating the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall’s exhibition at the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park in 2011.

Dolores derived immense pleasure from being an active participant in Entre Nous, as well as attending her weekly Sunday school class. Among her preferred recreational activities were playing card games with her family and baking delicious sweet treats. Her penchant for presenting herself in the best possible way extended to ensuring everything around her was in an orderly fashion.

Dolores is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Spears; sons, Michael Spears and Kent Spears; brothers, Curtis Fontenot and Danny Fontenot; and her parents Allen and Hazel Fontenot.

Dolores is survived by her daughter-in-law, Myra Spears; siblings, Charles Fontenot, Shirley Puteck, Victor Fontenot, Tim Fontenot, and Theresa Fontenot, and her grandchildren, Thea and Molly Spears.

On behalf of Dolores Spears’ family, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the First Baptist Church, LAMM Hospice, and particularly, her caretaker Barbara Granger.
