David Glover, Sr.

May 20, 1947 — May 19, 2023

David Glover, Sr., 75, of Jennings, passed away peacefully in his home on May 19, 2023, surrounded by his family.

The family has chosen the wishes of cremation. Cremation has been entrusted to Miguez Funeral Home.

David grew up in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. He was the youngest or three children and the only son. He always loved music and listened to his record player daily with his best friend, Terry. As he grew older, he fell in love with Drum and Bugle Corps and was a member of The Pointers from Point Pleasant and the St. Lucy’s Cadets from Jersey City. He moved to Louisiana in 1965 to study music at Southeastern State University in Hammond, LA where he met his wife, Dorquin. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Music Education. He married Dorquin in 1969 and stayed in Hammond to begin their lives together. They moved to LaPlace in the fall of 1970 where he began his first teaching job at Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve, LA. In 1972, he moved to Edgard High School in Edgar, LA. In 1973, the family moved to Westwego where he began teaching at Archbishop Shaw. In 1977, the family moved to Jennings and have been there ever since. He was the band director at Jennings High School from 1977 to 1979. He taught at many area schools over the years before his retirement. David loved to travel. Whether it was to New Jersey to see family or to Civil War battle sites. he packed all of his children into the car and hit the road. Road trips were not complete without McDonald’s cheeseburgers and music blaring. His love of music has been infused into all of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He never met a stranger and will be remembered for his passion for life and his influence on his family, friends, and former students.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorquin Barlow Glover; daughters, Erin (Andoe) Arathoon of Albuquerque, NM, and Amanda (Nick) Richert of Lafayette, La; sons, David Glover, Jr. of Jennings, Kerry Glover of Jennings, Andrew (Carla) Glover of Lafayette, and Patrick (May Ann) Glover of Jennings; sister, Judith Lechner of Pont Pleasant, NJ; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

David is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Johnson.
