Clifton Benoit, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2011, in the comfort of his sisters home surrounded by family and loved ones after a lengthy illness. He was born in Jennings, LA to the late Ogden Benoit, Sr. and Irene Miller Benoit on July 17, 1939. Clifton was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church for many years. He attended Jennings High School prior to joining the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During his service, he received a Commendation Badge as a military rifle carbine expert. Clifton was retired, previously having worked with a tree surgeon service in Houston, Texas as an experienced climber and tree conservationist. He will forever be remembered by his family and friends as a kindhearted, generous, loving person who was truly blessed with the gift of laughter. He brought joy to everyone he met and leaves an everlasting testimony of the true meaning of Do unto others as you would have them do unto you . Left behind to cherish his memory is his daughter, Marie Benoit Danford of Tilton, New Hampshire, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, his brothers James of Jennings and Charles of Lake Arthur, his sisters, Glenda Dupont, Hilda Richard and Sharon Broussard of Jennings and one sister in law Marsha Benoit also of Jennings. Clifton has been joyfully reunited in Heaven with his beloved parents, his son Bruce Lee Benoit, and two brothers, Odgen (Junior) Benoit, Jr. and Preston Benoit, Sr. and one sister Linda Benoit LaPoint. Pallbearers will be Charles Benoit (brother), Kevin Richard, Travis Smith, Bobby Broussard, Brandon Holden (nephew) and David Cloud (his buddy). A heartfelt thank you to Brother Marvin Durgan of Southern Care Hospice and their loyal caregivers. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 with Brother Durgan officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of services on Wednesday.
