Mrs. Clara Bell Verrett Shoemake, 82, of Lake Arthur, passed away in the early morning hours of June 10, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shoemake will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Clyde Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Visitation for Mrs. Shoemake will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. It will resume Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m. for the procession to church.
Mrs. Shoemake was born on July 16, 1941, in Lake Arthur to Clifford Verrett and Helen Mire Verrett. She worked as a cashier in retail sales for many years. She also volunteered at the rectory of Our Lady of the Lake from time to time. Mrs. Shoemake served as a commissioner for the Registrar of Voters. She loved to shop, travel, and play bingo. She especially enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Cynthia (Leo) Mallett of Lake Arthur; two sons, Clifford (Denice) Shoemake of Lake Arthur and Joseph C. (Barbara) Shoemake of Alma, Arkansas; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Charles Shoemake I; a daughter, Cassandra Ard; her parents and a sister Ruby Joyce Chaisson.
