A memorial service for Dr. Elizabeth Vaughan, 78, will be held on December 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Arthur. Memorial visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. The family is honoring her wishes to be cremated.

Dr. Vaughan passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, in Baton Rouge, LA. 

Betty was a dedicated student and teacher; she loved traveling and exploring cultures and environments. She circled the globe, and her adventures took her from Alaska to Africa, Antarctica, India, and Europe. After receiving her Ph.D. in Geography at LSU, she taught at Ball State University, impacting countless lives. Betty loved nature and all the creatures in God’s creation. Betty enjoyed her books and garden and would always make time for oysters with friends. She was loved and admired by friends and former students; and will be missed by many. 

She is survived by; her niece, Ann Barrilleaux of Woodside, CA and nephew, Chris Barrilleaux of Melbourne, FL; cousin Gene (Janet) Theriot of Lake Arthur.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Amay Theriot Vaughan; two sisters, Alma Vaughan Barrilleaux and Jane Vaughan; four brothers, Allen, Adney, Freddie and Ray Vaughan.
