Andrew (Leroy) Leroy Dickerson, Jr.

November 16, 1923 — September 18, 2010

JENNINGS Mr. Andrew Leroy Dickerson, Jr. (Leroy), 86, died at 12:35 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 in the Jennings American Legion Hospital. Mr. Dickerson was a native of Palma, Kentucky and a Jennings resident for over 60 years, moving here from Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Lambuth College in Jackson, TN, Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas, and attended Boston Theological School in Boston, MA. He was an active member of the Jennings United Methodist Church, having taught Bible studies for many years. He was a member of the Optimist Club. He co-authored the book Journey to Jesus: A Walk Through the Bible with his daughter Janet Dickerson-Deshotel. Survivors include his two daughters, Janet Dickerson-Deshotel and husband Larry of Carlyss, Sue Dickerson Pavey and husband James Douglas of Aztec, N.M.; three sons, Raymond Brown and wife Ann of Roanoke, Byron Denny Dickerson and wife Brook of Louisville, TN, Andy L. Dickerson, III of Jennings; one sister, Lyda Dicus of Walnut Creek, CA; one brother Tucker Dickerson of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. A.L. and Grace Chumbler Dickerson, Sr.; his wife, Mildred Hartwell Dickerson and former wife, Nina Mae Denny Gunn, and three brothers, Jimmy Dickerson, Dycus Dickerson and Carl Dickerson, Sr. He was a United Methodist minister, an author, and the manager of Public Finance Company for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heifer International, Little Rock, AR; St. Jude Hospital, Memphis, TN; Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, Jennings, or the American Heart Association. Mr. Dickerson donated his body to LSU Medical Center so that others may be helped. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Jennings United Methodist Church with Rev. Ted Freeland officiating. Leroy completed his journey to Jesus.
