Lake Arthur
Alyce Joyce (née Broussard) Clarkson passed away in her Houston home at the age of 103. Alyce was born on December 25, 1918, in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, of Acadian French heritage, the third of five daughters of Theogene and Olivia Olivier Broussard of Lake Arthur, Louisiana. Alyce led the Yellow Jackets at Louisiana State University football games, graduated in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Chemistry and was honored as a Golden Tiger.
After the Second World War, she married the man for whom she had waited four years, Guy Richard Clarkson of Oklahoma. They lived in Lafourche Parish until our father’s company moved them to the Houston. They had two children, a daughter Mary Catherine and a son Richard Kenneth. Alyce was a member of Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church in Memorial Park and a devout Catholic with a strong faith in God and devotion to the Sacred Heart. She enjoyed activities with family and friends, reading, cooking, listening to music and was a member of the Altar Society, Women’s Club and Green Tree Garden Club. She especially enjoyed Christmas Day with family, as this was also her birthday. She was always a joy to talk with since her memory stayed perfect, recalling people and events with clarity.
Alyce is survived by her children Mary Catherine Clarkson and Richard Kenneth Clarkson (Gayle), her sister Dorothy Guirovich of Lafayette, her nieces Susan Fautt Blankenship (Ron), Betty Ruth Clarkson Conkling (Rob), Paula Ann Clarkson Fortner, Laura Anne Guirovich and many other nieces and nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Private services will be held in Lake Arthur, Louisiana. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in her memory can do so to the LSU (www.lsufoundation.org) or St Theresa Catholic Church, Memorial Park, Houston, Texas (www.sttheresa.cc).
