Jennings Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Melissa Smith Wheat, 95 will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jack Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be held Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Wheat died Friday, July 14, 2011 at 10:05 p.m. in the Southwind Nursing Home of Crowley. She was a native of Jennings, LA and a graduate of Jennings High School. She was a retired Sales Clerk for J. C. Penney and enjoyed cooking and doing word search puzzles. Survivors include a daughter; Elizabeth Naquin and spouse Eugene of Lafayette, LA, a grandson; Dr. Marshall Reid Naquin and spouse Susan of Orlando, FL and a sister; Mildred Smith Taylor of Rayne, LA. Mrs. Wheat was preceded in death by her parents Harvey Frank and Anna Mathilda Phelps Smith, five brothers; Homer, Everett, George, Eugene and John Smith and two sisters; Helen Brooks and Nettie Caldwell.
