ELTON Funeral services for Mr. Alfred William Goebel, 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 in the First Baptist Church of Elton with Rev. Pat Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the China Cemetery near Elton under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday; and 8:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Mr. Goebel died at 11:37 p.m., March 30, 2012 in the Jennings American Legion Hospital. Mr. Goebel was a lifelong resident of Elton, graduated from the Elton High School and attended SLI in Lafayette one year. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the 449th Bomb Group during World War II. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elton where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Gideons. He served on the Board of Directors of American Rice Incorporated (ARI); he was former Jeff Davis Parish Farm Bureau President. His home for the last four years was the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings where he felt at home and was very well taken care of. Survivors include his wife, Lena Frances Walker Goebel of Elton; one daughter, Frances Fran Stroud and husband Byron of Elton; two sons, William Alfred Bill Goebel and wife Kelli of Laurel, MD, Karl Edward Goebel and wife Katherine of Milan, PA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Goebel was preceded in death by his parents, Karl William and Emma Lina Loewer Goebel; four brothers, Elmer, Harvey, Erwin and Norman; and one granddaughter, Kristina Goebel.
