Agnes June Hupp

June 9, 1946 — February 27, 2020

Estherwood

Agnes June LeJeune Hupp died on Feb. 27, 2020 in Gulfport, Mississippi, from complications from urothelial cancer at the age of 73. She was a resident of Estherwood, Louisiana.

Agnes — or June as she preferred to be addressed— grew up in Estherwood surrounded by the love of many sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was the youngest child of David and Martha LeJeune and grew up caring for some of her nieces and nephews during the course of her childhood. June knew from a young age the joy of being a part of a close family and worked her whole life to create that same joy and sense of family with everyone she encountered. Upon graduating Midland High School in 1964, June joined the Air Force, married Kenneth Potts, and travelled across the U.S. Her first daughter, Jessica (Lopez), was born in 1968. In 1978, June returned to Estherwood to care for her aging mother and built a life serving in the medical profession at local doctor’s offices, hospitals, and nursing homes.

In 1993, June married Ross Hupp and raised Kelly (Spangler) and Kasey (Peterson) in Pineville, Louisiana. There, she continued her nursing career in an OB-GYN office dedicated to high-risk pregnancies.

Later, June retired to Pass Christian, Mississippi, where she devoted her time to her Catholic faith and was active in ministering as a Ladies Altar Society member of Holy Family Parish. She also earned Master Gardener status and participated in the Pass Christian Art Association.

In 2013, June returned to Estherwood and continued in her service to others by becoming active again in St. Margaret’s Catholic Church and helping friends and family members with health care needs.

June was known for many things including her passion for serving others and giving godly advice, but some of her chief joys included practicing her gift of hospitality with Sunday and holiday dinners, honing her skills as an watercolor artist, diving into a good book, catching up the latest installment of Masterpiece Theater, and enjoying the quiet of her back porch — whether that back porch was in Mississippi or Louisiana— with a simple cup of coffee and a light breeze.

June was preceded in death by her parents, David and Martha LeJeune; her sisters Wilma Ruth LeJeune, Nelda Trahan, Della King, and Marguerite Barremore; her brothers Frederick LeJeune, Charles LeJeune, and Phillip LeJeune; her nephews Brett LeJeune and Michael King; her grandson Simon James Peterson; and a host of relatives she loved dearly.

June is survived by her brother Joseph (Joe) LeJeune of Estherwood and children Jessica (Potts) Lopez and husband John of Wiggins, Mississippi; Eric Hupp and Shawn Hupp of Boston, Massachusetts; Kelly (Hupp) Spangler and husband Tim of Los Angeles, California; and Kasey (Hupp) Peterson and husband Brandon of Foley, Alabama. She is also survived by many relatives and close friends who experienced her unconditional love, wisdom, and wit throughout the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Estherwood, LA with Father Randal Moreau officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm and rosary to precede mass. Burial will follow at the Estherwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
