A.C. (Bill) Williams, Jr., passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana, surrounded by his family. A.C. was born to Minnie and A.C. Williams, Sr., on June 8, 1920, in Tioga, Louisiana. He served in World War II as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army. He parachuted into Normandy, France, the night before D-Day, and was captured on June 8, 1944. He remained a prisoner of war until January 1946. During his captivity, he was constantly being moved from one place to another, often without food for as long as 5 days. The Russians liberated the POWs in April 1945, releasing them from a small POW enclosure east of Berlin, where they were marched back across the Rhine and were soon under American military control. After his release, he received many honors. A.C. also served in operations in Sicily, Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, and Africa. A.C., affectionately known as Bill , worked for Bell South for 35 years, before his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Telecom Pioneer Workers, the Communications Workers of America, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He loved to barbeque and was quite a dancer. He had a great sense of humor and picked with everyone he met. He will always be remembered for his distinct chuckle. His parents, A.C. and Minnie Williams, his stepmother, Grace Williams; six sisters, Lillian, Minnie, Grace, Mary, Doris Sue, and Lessie and one brother J.T.Williams preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Nellie Roy Williams. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra W. Royer and husband John, Jr., of Crowley, Louisiana; sons, Ronnie Lynn Williams and wife Ann, of Jennings, and Mike Joseph (Bear) of Jennings; his grandchildren, Teryl Lyn Kibodeaux, Tammy K. Pittman, Todd Lewis Kibodeaux, Robert Matthew Williams, and Brent Joseph Williams, all residing in Texas, and, Lynn W. Courville, of North Carolina, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. His twin sisters, Elsie and Delsie, as well as his former spouse, Eula Mae Williams, also survive him. His funeral will be held at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, on Tuesday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m. Deacon Mike Tramel will officiate. Burial with full military rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings. Visitation will be on Monday, April 27 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday April 28 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
